Our Heritage
Generations Of Construction In Minden
The Leary family has a long-standing history in the cottage country community, tracing back to pre-Confederation times. It all began with Thomas Leary, who played a crucial role in the area's early development. He operated a stagecoach service between Coboconk and Moore Falls, and his inn and tavern was a popular stop for travelers heading up the settlement road. Thomas also became the area's first postmaster.
In 1866, Thomas successfully petitioned the Crown for funds to build bridges and construct a road to Minden. By 1867, he had extended the road to Miners’ Bay. His descendants continued his legacy throughout the 1900's, building many of the roads, developing properties, and operating their sand pit around the Gull Lake and Lutterworth area.
